Water Desalination Plants in Israel
The water sources in Israel are in a serious depletion for a long period.
The balance of water in our country is always negative. Every year, during the last years, we consume more water than we get from rain or pumping.
Israeli governments were concerned by this issue and tied to find an appropriate solution.
During the last five years the Israeli's authorities took action in order to increase the water sources by construction of desalination facilities of sea water.
During the Nineties, it was decided to create 400 million cubic meters of desalinated water each year. Later on the quantity was increased to 505 million, and during 2008 the target capacity was increased once more to 750 million cubic meters per year, till 2020.
As of 2010 Israel desalinates approx. 215 million cubic meters per year which means approx. 33% of the domestic consumption of drinking water.

The construction of these plants is made according to B.O.T (Build, Operate, Transfer) through P.F.I (Private Finance Initiative) arrangements; in which 3 main factors are involved:
