AGN INTERNATIONAL 2008 World Congress Chair Report

Ms. Esther Tan, chair of AGN INTERNATIONAL presented to members the Annual Report from the last year during the World Congress, which took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 25 to 28 of September. Most relevant points of the report are detailed below:

During 2007 the decision to continue as an Association rather than structure as a Network was taken, and consequences of that decision will appear during 2008.

The AGN country representation, number of offices, personnel and turnover has increased compared to previous year even with the loss of some members.

The country representation of AGN members has always been growing, and at the end of 2007 AGN had member firms in 89 different countries in the world.

Twelve firms joined the organization last year. These firms were in Turkey, Germany, India, Syria, Tanzania, the Dominican Republic, Belarus, Ukraine, the Netherlands, the US and Liechtenstein. Some of these new appointments are a consequence of the AGN strategy to increase client service in Eastern Europe. More appointments in this region are taking place during 2008.

In terms of member firm billings, these climbed to over US$1.3 billion in 2007, reflecting an increase of 14% over the previous year. This placed AGN as the 18th largest organization in the world, according to the International Accounting Bulletin’s annual survey for 2007.

The services lines that AGN members provided continue showing a similar proportion as previous years: Audit 30%, Accounting 25%, Taxation 27% and other services 18%. The provision of assurance services represents the greatest amount of income for members.

Esther Tan, Chair of AGN INTERNATIONAL says:

I feel very positive about the strategies that have been put into place to ensure that AGN moves forward confidently and successfully. The key to this happening is closer communication and relationships between members and I have a personal strategy while I am Chair to ensure this happens”
